Thursday 27th of August 2026. Marina Rubicon, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:10574183 I've booked into the marina here for 3 nights to stock up on food, water, fuel etc. It's rated as maybe the best marina in the Canaries and costs 26 euros a night, way more than I've been used to but then this whole area is like a mini Algarve, very nice. I know the man in the boat next to me from Gran Canaria, Josh, he is a friend of Tino who was in the boat next to me in that marina and although Spanish, used to live in Ruislip for 12 years.

Sunday 23rd of August 2026. Lanzarote.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:10574183 Anchored in Playa Mujeres, Lanzarote. Fuertaventura wasn't great, a bit short on good anchorages and welcoming marinas but I'll go back if I get a spell of settled weather.

Monday 17th of August 2026. Back on the boat at Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:10574183 The harbourmaster said nothing when I went to see him but I doubt he believed my story about having to go to a funeral. I am anchored back outside of the marina, in the bay with about four other boats and have tested my new fins from Decathlon, managing to dive 7 metres to touch my anchor. Next stop is Castillo Caleta de Fuste, about 20 miles up the coast. They don't have any space for me but there are so few places that I can stop in Fuerteventura that I don't want to miss it so I will wait here a bit to see if things change. Tuesday 18th August 2026. Looking at the forecast, if I don't move up to Lanzarote either today or tomorrow then I could be stuck here for weeks. I don't have the will to do that, so it looks like I might be here for some time. I have a new watertight bag (thank you, Carmel), which I think will come in very handy. Thursday 20th of August 2026. The wind eases on Sunday, I'm plan...

Thursday 6th of August 2026. Gran Tarajal. Fuerteventura.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:10574183 I'll book into the marina here for the next 10 nights while I get my flight back to the UK. Monday 10th of August 2026. I am in a very nice town and in a well reviewed marina but one known for being difficult to book into. I arrived on Friday and went to pay the harbour master (who I suspect doesn't know how to use his computer) and he told me to come back today, Monday, I did this morning and he told me to come back tomorrow, but I'm leaving tomorrow I told him, 'you are not allowed to leave your boat unattended' he told me. It's the first time I've heard that. So I've done a runner. Will handcuffs await my return at the weekend?

Sunday 2nd of August 2026. Fuerteventura.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:10574183 I have dropped anchor in Morro Jable. 150 miles, 36 hours. An arduous trip. The winds here are ferocious but sometimes there is no avoiding them. I have a flight booked from Fuerteventura so had to make the crossing at some point. 4/8/26. Morro de Jable. Sitting at a bar looking at Nomad, the tiny boat in the middle distance. I have almost never come across anyone visiting these parts in a boat as small as Nomad. It's like being in a giant swimming pool.

Friday 31st of July. Tenerife. On the way to Fuertaventura.
