Tuesday 31st of March 2026. La Gomera marina.

Image
Ashore for the first time in a week. I couldn’t get into any of my chosen marinas in Tenerife so have come to La Gomera in the fog. Good Friday 3rd of April. The Calima has cleared. Went for a hike. You can't see it in this photo but the whole of this mountainside is terraced as are all the mountainsides around here. The terraces are built up with stone walls and are only 2-3 metres wide. So much work for so little gain. Apparently the ancients grew wheat and barley, they couldn't now but the Canary Islands were supposed to have been much wetter in the olden days. Also, you can see the cave where they lived and Mount Tiede on Tenerife in the misty distance. You can see the terraces better in this photo.

28th of March 2026. El Puertito anchorage.

Mount Tiede, the highest mountain in Spain. Snow covered at the end of March, apparently an uncommon sight.

Friday 27th of March 2026. Los Christianos anchorage. Tenerife.

Not a bad anchorage, a bit rolly though.

Thursday 26th of March 2026. Anchored south of Tenerife.

Now anchored in the lee of Tenerife, sheltered from strong winds that are on the way from the north. There are supposed to be turtles around here but I haven't seen anything yet. A tern having a rest on my solar panel.

Wednesday 25th of March 2026. Leaving Las Palmas.

On my way to shelter in the south of Tenerife,  there was no room for me in the marinas at Santa Cruz, which is where I wanted to go. More strong winds are on the way at the weekend and If I don't go now I could be stuck here in Las Palmas for another long period. Tino, there to wave me off.
