Sunday 11th of January. Las Palmas marina Gran Canaria.
I'm in! At last they found me a place in the marina and I'm booked in until the middle of March. 63 nights at 4 euros per night including water and electricity. No wonder it's so popular, I've known marinas to charge more than that just to plug into the electricity. Time to do some laundry.
Tuesday 13th of January 2026.
A bit of a kerfuffle here at the marina. Lots of Police, TV camera crews, demonstrators. Liveaboards being evicted.
Wednesday 21st of January 2026.
I've been on a few hikes but this one was spectacular.
The Caldera de Bandama, an old volcano, the hike is around the rim.
11th of March 2026.
Strong winds here at the moment and for the foreseeable, my next destination is Tenerife but I really don't fancy making the crossing, I've booked into the marina here until the end of the month.
17th of March 2026
I've booked accommodation in the mountains up in the clouds for the next two nights to hike the most inaccessible bits of the island But Murphy has appropriately stuck his oar in and a storm is expected tomorrow. This might be the only good photo I get.
Incredible price, Brendan! I would have said at least €30 / night. It must be a municipal marina? Certainly not private, but anyway, well done for waiting it out.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "liveaboards" are they the owners or renting from the owners as a permanent residence?
ReplyDeleteThey would be owners. No need to rent as you can pick up an old boat for a few thousand pounds although it might no longer be able to go anywhere.
DeleteWhat's happened to your blog??? There's been 'radio silence' since the 15th Jan... or am I just not seeing an updated version
ReplyDeleteAgree Carmel. I didn't realise when Brendan said he was booked into the marina until mid March that he would be silent until then.
DeleteWell, Nomad isn't going anywhere so I don't have much to report. My days are made up of reading the paper, doing the laundry, a bit of Duolingo, going for a walk, all humdrum stuff.
DeleteBut I have an interesting neighbour, Tino, born within sight of the marina, escaped to England where he lived for 20 years to avoid conscription or imprisonment by Franco., lived in Hanwell. He has been a mine of information about the history of the Islands, history and the original inhabitants. I'll try and get a photo before I leave next week.
