Monday 5th of January 2026. Las Palmas anchorage.

Great news. I'm number one on the waiting list to come into the marina, I can expect a call imminently. And my dinghy doesn't have a leak, some blighter let the air out, what can I say? It's something I might have done as a kid.

    It was a close shave when Nomad drifted off its anchorage! It must be such a worry to leave it out of the marina when you have to go away, especially in wintertime. Sounds like you have some good neighbours there, looking out for each other.

    That's nice to look forward to. I imagine it's getting a little tedious bobbing around at anchor. Is there a time limit on how long you can stay in the marina?

      There is but I dont know what it is. I could be in now if I were only staying for five days but I told them I want to stay until mid March so they have to find me a slot for that long. They have recently given liveaboards notice to clear out and forbidden people from renting their boats out for parties or Airbnb so are quite wary.

    Hi Brendan, good luck getting somewhere to tie up in the marina. Can't be nice knowing that whilst you were away Nomad dragged it's anchor and your not there.

I'm in! At last they found me a place in the marina and I'm booked in until the middle of March. 63 nights at 4 euros per night including water and electricity. No wonder it's so popular, I've known marinas to charge more than that just to plug into the electricity. Time to do some laundry. Tuesday 13th of January 2026. A bit of a kerfuffle here at the marina. Lots of Police, TV camera crews, demonstrators. Liveaboards being evicted. Wednesday 21st of January 2026. I've been on a few hikes but this one was spectacular.  The Caldera de Bandama, an old volcano, the hike is around the rim. Strange formations in the solidified ash.

3rd of January 2026. Back on the boat, still on the anchor in Las Palmas. Gran Canaria.

Relieved to get back after two weeks away to find my dinghy still tied to the pontoon where I left it. Unfortunately it had a slow leak that I was unaware of and after two weeks one of the tubes was half flat. There was no wind and I could just about maneuver in the marina but no way could I take it out to sea. Luckily I didn’t have to look too far for someone to lend me a footpump and am now back on the boat and all is as I left it except that the solar panels are a bit shook up, I think there were some strong winds while I was away. And, in fact, my neighbour who kept an eye on my boat tells me that when the weather was bad Nomad was blown alongside another anchored boat that had to move. Well, I was here first but it is bad form to leave your boat unattended at anchor. I'll have to try and avoid having to do so in the future.
